Monthly
☐ Check that the sump pump is plugged in and the breaker is on
☐ Make sure the discharge pipe is securely connected
☐ Look for visible rust, corrosion, or debris
☐ Listen for unusual noises or vibrations
Every 3 Months
☐ Pour water into the sump pit to ensure the pump activates
☐ Watch to confirm water is being pumped out properly
☐ Check that the float moves freely
☐ Inspect the pit for dirt, gravel, or obstructions
Every 6 Months
☐ Clean the sump pit and pump intake screen
☐ Inspect the discharge line for clogs, freezing risk, or damage
☐ Make sure the pipe directs water at least 6–10 feet away from the foundation
Once Per Year
☐ Unplug the pump and inspect the impeller for debris
☐ Check all electrical connections
☐ Test the backup pump or battery system
☐ Replace backup batteries if needed
☐ Have the system professionally inspected

☐ Verify the pump is cycling normally
☐ Check that water is flowing out of the discharge line
